This month, we recognize National Diabetes Month. This is an important time to raise awareness about Type 1 diabetes and how it can affect children. Here are some signs and symptoms of Type 1 diabetes to watch for in young children:
Increased thirst
Frequent urination (including possible bed-wetting in a potty-trained child)
Extreme hunger
Fatigue
Fruity-smelling breath
Early recognition is key to keeping children safe and healthy. For more information and resources for parents, visit the Ohio Department of Health’s Type 1 Diabetes Resource Page: https://odh.ohio.gov/know-our-programs/chronic-disease/data-publications/type-1-diabetes-information
