At Joshua Dixon Elementary, we understand that education is more than academics. It’s about helping students grow into well-rounded, resilient, and caring individuals. That’s why social-emotional learning (SEL) and wellness are a cornerstone of our school culture. Through programs like PAX Good Behavior Game, PBIS expectations, and weekly lessons on empathy, friendship, and decision-making, students learn important life skills that help them succeed in school and beyond. Lessons also focus on tattling vs. helpful communication, relationship building, and conflict resolution, helping students navigate social situations with confidence. Our wellness initiatives support both mental and physical health, including activities like yoga, mindfulness, and gardening, which encourage students to take care of themselves and each other. These experiences teach students the value of self-care, responsibility, and healthy habits, laying a strong foundation for lifelong wellness. By integrating SEL and wellness into everyday learning, Joshua Dixon Elementary helps students develop empathy, resilience, and positive relationships, preparing them not just for academic success, but for life. Thank you to Mrs. Raub-Carney and to our ESC social workers and support staff.
Speaking of wellness, big congratulations to Mrs. Passas for receiving a grant from the Columbiana Community Foundation to purchase exercise bikes for our students! These bikes will be a wonderful addition to our school, providing opportunities for students to stay active and focused. The bikes will be used not only during Physical Education classes but also as a tool for students who may need a sensory or movement break throughout the day. This creative addition supports both physical wellness and emotional regulation, helping students recharge and return to learning ready to do their best. Thank you, Mrs. Passas, for your dedication to student wellness and for always finding innovative ways to keep our students healthy, happy, and engaged!
