Congratulations to Mrs. Kurtz on being selected as Columbiana Exempted Village School District’s nominee for the Mahoning Valley Educator of the Year award!
Mrs. Kurtz firmly believes that every student deserves a learning environment where they feel safe, valued, and capable of success. In their nomination, Dr. Martin and Dr. Freedy highlighted how her creativity, enthusiasm, and dedication have been paramount in fostering a school culture rooted in belonging, encouragement, and high expectations.
At Columbiana Middle School, Mrs. Kurtz has been instrumental in strengthening school culture through her leadership of the Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) program, including the creation of the Very Important Clipper (VIC) Lounge and the Clipper Flight Crew mentoring program. She also played a key role in launching the Clipper Coalition to enhance athletic facilities and helped spearhead the Team Tressel Fitness Challenge, further promoting student wellness and engagement.
Dr. Martin has expressed deep appreciation for Mrs. Kurtz’s remarkable ability to balance her many roles with grace, humility, and unwavering enthusiasm.
